How to Apply for Facebook’s $40M Small Business Grant Program
Facebook has recently announced that it will give $40 million in grants to 10,000 U.S. small businesses that have been negatively affected by coronavirus. According to recent Goldman Sachs survey, there are over 30 million small businesses in the U.S., 96% say they have already been impacted by COVID-19.
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, recently posted the following on her Facebook profile page … “The COVID-19 pandemic has hit small businesses everywhere. Suddenly and, through no fault of their own, many simply can’t do business, and for others it has become much, much harder because customers are doing the right thing and staying at home.”
How to Apply
Applications are now being accepted. The majority of the grants will be distributed in cash, with some ad credits for business services. Businesses do not need to be on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp to apply.
To be eligible to apply, you business must:
- Be a for-profit company
- Have between 2 and 50 employees
- Have been in business for over a year
- Have experienced challenges from COVID-19
- Be in or near a location where Facebook operates (1 of 34 U.S. cities)

Facebook Grant Documentation
To prepare your application, you’ll need to provide one of the following documents:
- Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
- Partnership documents
- Business license
- Proof of incorporation
- Official registration
The application for a Facebook grant will also ask for your contact information, a brief summary about your business, and an explanation how you would use the cash grant. For example, you could continue to pay employees or provide essential services to your community.

Applications are currently being accepted in Seattle and San Francisco to start. Facebook will start rolling this out to 30 other U.S. markets over the coming week. After applications become available in your area, you will have two weeks to apply before the application deadline.
